This week, two commonly purchased groceries from ALDI and Costco have issued critical health alerts. Regardless of whether these products include your preferred salsa or an easy grab-and-go dish, here’s what requires immediate attention (and potentially disposal).
On April 19, the U.S. The Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) released a public health warning about precooked pork carnitas available across the country at ALDI stores The warning was issued following an incident where Cargill, a supplier for ALDI, detected equipment damage during a regular check-up. This raised fears that metal pieces could have tainted the carnitas.
Even though an official recall wasn’t announced, the FSIS cautions that certain products made from April 1st through April 2nd, 2025, might still be kept in customers’ freezers. Check your labels for these details:
Product Name: Seasoned and seared pork with juices, slow-cooked using citrus (16-ounce sleeved tray packaging).
- Establishment Number: Est. 46049
- Expiration Dates: June 30, 2025, or July 1, 2025 (stamped on the side of the package)
You can examine the pictures of the product labels. Up until now, no reports of injuries have surfaced. Should you possess this item at home, dispose of it right away and reach out to your local ALDI store for a complete reimbursement. In case of further questions, customers are advised to dial Cargill’s Consumer Hotline at 1-844-419-1574.
In the meantime, Costco has informed its customers about an additional problem: SupHerb Farms, an herb provider based in California, has initiated a voluntary recall of their cilantro used in San Juan Salsa Co. products because they may be contaminated with tiny pieces of wood.
