CHICAGO – On Saturday, in an area of Chicago typically designated for human medical services, WGN-TV found patients with paws.
At the Medical District Veterinary Clinic , 20 dogs and 59 cats were able to receive the necessary care at no cost.
“With everyone from A Tail at a Time and Tree House Humane Society ", including neutering, spaying, vaccinating, offering preventive care and microchipping," stated veterinarian Dr. Ana Valbuena.
This initiative is a component of the community medicine program. Numerous patients hail from families that might not have been able to pay for medical care otherwise.
"It's incredible. Since I'm part of such a community, this truly resonates with me, and I find it wonderful that the school is collaborating with rescue and shelter organizations to make an event like this happen," stated Naomi Esquivel, a student at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.
Esquivel and her colleagues similarly express wonder at the chance to offer practical, hands-on care.
"It significantly boosts their confidence, and these kinds of events fulfill their desire to work with animals," Esquivel stated.
For owners such as Patrice Hayes and a 4-month-old named Musuko, it’s much-needed assistance.
“They bring joy to your life. That’s my baby; that’s my heart. So it was a pleasure coming in to get service and making sure he’s gonna be okay, be ready,” Hayes said.
The free clinics take place several times each year, along with various affordable services being offered as well.
