On May 8, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif reported an increasingly volatile situation, stating that India had launched two additional attacks aimed at targeting Pakistani urban centers throughout the day. Asif warned that the danger persisted, noting that electricity had been intentionally shut off in certain regions as a preventive measure against potential future assaults from India. He underscored that Pakistan stands ready to counter any more hostile actions.
Asif denounced India's groundless allegations and the ensuing aggressive actions, emphasizing that the Indian assault wasn’t confined to the contested area of Kashmir but also reached various Pakistani urban centers such as Mureedke and Ahmedpur Sharqia. He charged India with indiscriminately striking non-military zones devoid of proof, branding these acts as both dishonorable and inflammatory.
In discussing Pakistan’s reaction, the defense minister highlighted that the Pakistani armed forces responded by targeting exclusively military objectives, ensuring no civilians were harmed in India. Despite having the capacity to attack populated areas, they opted against doing so, showcasing their ethical superiority and professional conduct. “Our retaliation was justified,” he stated, “and we executed it with responsibility.”
Khawaja Asif indicated that Pakistan could possibly contemplate taking preemptive measures moving forward, asserting that "it may be time to address this matter." He emphasized that Pakistan reserves the right to act first if instigated and implied that the nation can no longer remain passive in absorbing assaults. "The time has come to resolve this issue," he stated resolutely.
In conclusion, he emphasized India’s trend of antagonizing neighboring countries, pointing out its tense relationships with almost every neighbor such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Additionally, Asif charged India with providing financial backing to outlawed militant groups like BLA and TTP, aiming to undermine Pakistan’s stability. These comments followed an incident where India carried out surprise attacks during the night, resulting in the deaths of 31 Pakistani citizens—among them were two children—and damaging two mosques. In response, Pakistan managed to shoot down six Indian aircraft and destroy a brigade headquarters.
